We’re thrilled to announce that Eversheds Sutherland will continue to offer their bursary scheme to young people and women supported by Llamau for another year.

For many of the young people and women supported by Llamau, things which many people may ordinarily take for granted such as suitable clothing for an interview, transport to and from work or a laptop to complete college coursework can create huge barriers to getting into education or employment.

The bursary scheme welcomes applications for grants that will help remove these barriers for young people, paving the way into education, training and/or employment.

Over the last three years, Eversheds Sutherland has supported around 100 young people and women across Wales, granting more than £29,000 in bursaries; enabling them to either progress into further education or training or commence employment.

Reflecting on the positive impact the bursary scheme has had to date, Mark Willmore, Head of Learning, Training and Employment said

We truly value our partnership with Eversheds Sutherland. Their bursary scheme has removed so many barriers for young people and women supported by Llamau but more importantly, it’s helped change the direction of their future.

Their continued support throughout the year ahead means more young people and women will continue to break down barriers and embark on exciting new opportunities.

Commenting on behalf of Eversheds Sutherland, Georgina Voogd told us

Our purpose is helping our clients, our people and our communities to thrive. Our partnership with End Youth Homelessness and the support provided to Llamau is a great example of how we can make a difference to our local communities.

“We have been working with Llamau for some time and share their vision that no young person or vulnerable woman should ever have to experience homelessness and we support their mission to eradicate homelessness for young people and women. It is a pleasure to continue to support them in 2019/2020 and the great work they deliver in the community.

Bethan’s Story*

Thanks to the Eversheds Bursary, Bethan was able to purchase a laptop to help complete coursework linked to her Agored Cymru qualifications. Bethan had already overcome a number of challenges in her life after leaving care, so being able to work on a laptop she could call her own and go on to achieve five Agored qualifications meant a lot to her.

Since completing her qualifications, Bethan has gone on to use her laptop to apply for a job in youth work, securing the role of Junior Leader with Caerphilly Youth Service.

Having gone from strength to strength, Bethan recently secured paid employment with Poundstretcher through Llamau’s Symud Ymlaen Moving Forward Programme. She continues to work as a Junior Leader with Caerphilly Youth Service on a voluntary basis, whilst working towards her Level 2 Youth Work qualification.

Bethan said “Never give up on your dreams.”
