"I missed a lot of work because of how he was. I tried to tell my employer what was going on but they didn’t think they could help me, so let me go.”

Is Domestic Abuse Your Business?

Domestic abuse currently costs UK businesses £1.9 billion every year.

It can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnicity, income or class, health issues or disability. Statistics show that women are disproportionally affected by domestic abuse, with one in three experiencing it during their lifetime. This means that, in a workforce which employs 500 women, it is likely that around 166 of them will have experienced domestic abuse

75% of women who experience domestic abuse are targeted at work – from harassing phone calls to abusive partners arriving at workplaces unannounced. This can also impact the wellbeing of other colleagues.

Ending Domestic Abuse is everyone’s responsibility. As an employer, you have a duty of care to ensure your employees are safe at work. By creating a working environment in which every employee feels confident and safe to seek or offer support with Domestic Abuse, you are showing your commitment to ending abuse for everyone.
