We are really excited to announce the launch of our brand-new event Brace the Brecons sponsored by the nation’s favourite family bakery, Brace’s!

Taking place in Wales’ iconic Brecon Beacons, take on the challenge of walking the scenic and demanding 16K Brecon Horseshoe Loop whilst fundraising for Llamau.

What suits you?

Speed Run

  • Individuals and teams can challenge themselves to complete in a set time of their choosing, or compete with their colleagues, friends or families.

Simply Strolling

  • For those who’d like more time to take in the views and have some fun along the way, you can join with your family, bring the dog or even take part in fancy dress!

There will be a video QR code trail for you to follow and scan along the way which will keep you motivated throughout your walk with supporter stories whilst also highlighting the incredible difference your fundraising is making for the people we support.

This event will be running for the whole month of July, allowing for flexibility and social distancing amongst participants. It can be undertaken solo or in larger groups; whatever you feel comfortable with. This event is the perfect way for you to reconnect with family, friends and colleagues whilst easing yourself back into normality.

The Route

The Brecon Horseshoe, also known as the Horseshoe Ridge Hike, takes in the best of the Beacons; from waterfalls to the iconic Pen-Y-Fan peak, this route really has it all! The walk is a very challenging 16k loop which will take you anywhere between 4-6 hours, depending on the number of snack-stops!

There are a number of car parks from which you can start the walk and there are lots of alternative paths which avoid the peaks which can be taken if you are finding the route too challenging. Upon registration we will send out a risk assessment, kit list and event pack.

If you're concerned about the difficulty of the route then we are recommending the Pen-Y-Fan walk, starting at Storey Arms or Pont ar Daf. This 6.4k there and back walk is very manageable and will still give you access to South Wales' highest peak. Perfect for families or less confident walkers!

This event has been put on with upmost consideration to the Coronavirus situation here in Wales.

The event will comply with guidance surrounding Coronavirus as it changes. We will update you if anything changes around access to the Brecon National Park. It is your responsibility to check the rules as they apply to you and your group to ensure you take part safely.

Visit the Welsh Government's Coronavirus page for the latest updates.

Registration is £6 per adult*. This registration fee will cover the organisational costs of putting on the event and then we ask that you raise £150 in sponsorship for Llamau. Once you have completed your challenge, you'll receive a special Llamau medal as recognition of your achievement.

You can also purchase a Llamau running top or vest which you can wear during your walk.

Our Sponsor:

We are thrilled to announce that the nation’s favourite family bakery, Brace’s, will be sponsoring this brand new fundraising event.

Your Support is so Important

As is so often the case, the pandemic has disproportionately affected those who were already the most at risk in our communities. Young people on zero-hour contracts, women facing lockdowns in violent households and increased family tension has all contributed to Llamau's services never being more needed.

Your commitment to fundraise for Llamau in 2021 means so much and will be make such a difference to the lives of the young people and women that Llamau support.
