Cardiff Women’s Aid Merge with Llamau Llamau and Cardiff Women’s Aid are proud to announce the official merger of Cardiff Women’s Aid into Llamau, a significant step towards strengthening support and services for women and families across Wales. This decision follows Cardiff Women’s Aid earlier statement in March, wherein they delegated authority to Llamau, a charity dedicated to ending homelessness for women and young people in Wales. The merger comes amid increasing challenges faced by domestic abuse services in the UK, including insufficient funding, workforce shortages, and staff sickness, which had rendered the future of Cardiff Women’s Aid extremely fragile. However, this unification marks a new chapter of resilience, ensuring that essential, high-quality support continues uninterrupted for women and children in Cardiff. Llamau and Cardiff Women’s Aid share a long-standing partnership of over 20 years, working closely to support women and families facing violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence. Katie Chappelle, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Cardiff Women’s Aid said “After 50 years of supporting women and children, Cardiff Women's Aid are confident that a merger between our two organisations will ensure that our high-quality and personalised support services will continue and grow. We want to reassure every person who currently needs us that the service will not stop, and the support you receive will continue under the care of Llamau.” “We'd like to thank every single staff member, service user and volunteer who has worked with us over the last 50 years. We know that the legacy of CWA will continue to thrive under the care of Llamau, and we look forward to a future where women and children are safe and free from abuse in Cardiff and across Wales.” Frances Beecher and Sam Austin, Chief Executive Officers for Llamau said “We were honoured to support Cardiff Women’s Aid in the short term to ensure services to women and families remained at the high quality expected. In the longer-term, the merger of the two organisations ensures vital services for women and families will continue uninterrupted. Joining forces means that economies of scale can ensure front line services are protected as much as possible . Llamau will ensure the proud legacy of Cardiff Women's aid continues, our focus will be on all areas of prevention of *VAWDASV. We take on the mantle of Cardiff Women’s Aid with respect for its long history of serving Cardiff’s communities and fighting to end VAWDASV. Llamau will not rest until VAWDASV is a shameful memory in our society. Our priority remains ensuring women and children needing vital services get the best support and advice exactly when they need it.” Advice and helpline numbers remain the same.
