On Bisexual Visibility Day, 23rd September, we celebrate the unique experiences of the bisexual community and highlight the lifesaving work Llamau does to support LGBTQ+ individuals facing homelessness.

Llamau has long been at the forefront of advocating for LGBTQ+ people, including bisexual individuals, by providing vital services that address their specific needs. A key initiative is Tŷ Pride, Wales’ first dedicated 24-hour support and accommodation service for LGBTQ+ young people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. For its residents Tŷ Pride is more than just a roof over their heads—its a place of safety and belonging. 100% of the young people at Tŷ Pride say they feel safe for the first time.

LGBTQ+ youth are disproportionately affected by homelessness, being four times more likely to experience it compared to their heterosexual and cisgender peers. For bisexual individuals, this is often compounded by the challenges of bi-erasure, where their identity is invalidated or misunderstood. The work of Llamau helps break this cycle by creating safe spaces where bisexual and other LGBTQ+ individuals can live without fear or judgment.

The growing awareness and acceptance of bisexuality in Wales reflect an encouraging trend. Data from the 2021 Census shows that 1% of the Welsh population—nearly 18,000 people—identify as bisexual, with 3% identifying as LGBTQ+. As visibility rises, so too does the need to ensure that bisexual individuals receive the support and affirmation they deserve.

At Llamau, we are deeply committed to being allies to the bisexual community. Our approach goes beyond policy; we actively promote LGBTQ+ education, challenge stereotypes, and work to ensure that bisexual individuals are seen, heard, and celebrated. Llamau's efforts are grounded in the belief that every person deserves to live authentically, free from fear and marginalisation.

This Bisexual Visibility Day, we invite everyone to join us in recognising the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, and committing to being better allies to bisexual people. Together, we can create a world where no one is forced to hide their identity, and where bisexuality is acknowledged, respected, and embraced.

As we celebrate the resilience and joy of bisexual individuals, we reaffirm our dedication at Llamau to continue building a future where every bisexual person is empowered to live their truth.
