Launched today, the Wales Youth Homelessness Helpline Annual Impact Report 2025-2026 highlights an 83% increase in calls over the last year. This represents 531 calls that were made to the helpline which operates on 24 hours a day, year-round basis.
Calls are handled predominantly by volunteers who are fully trained and supported by a coordinator. Run by Llamau this is the only service of its kind in Wales, and plays a critical role in the early intervention and prevention of homelessness.
Llamau Chief Executive, Sam Austin said: “I am incredibly proud to launch this report and share news of the positive impact the Wales Youth Homelessness Helpline is having. Every call represents a young person, a family, or someone worried that a young person has nowhere safe to go, and our helpline ensures that people are not left facing these problems alone.
With 85% of callers supported to avoid homelessness, this report gives us real hope. It shows that youth homelessness is not inevitable. When we listen early, respond with care and work together, we can change the direction of a young person’s life. At Llamau, we are proud to deliver the Wales Youth Homelessness Helpline, proud of our amazing volunteers and colleagues who make it happen, and we are more committed than ever to ending Youth Homelessness in Wales”.
The Report provides further information, including the key drivers of youth homelessness as reported by the callers. This in itself helps to shape and direct Llamau’s work in providing effective support to help prevent homelessness.
