Founded and led by Llamau in 2017, EYHC was established to drive systemic change and ensure youth homelessness in Wales is prevented, not managed. This next chapter builds on the strong foundations laid by Llamau and reflects the growth and maturity of a movement we are incredibly proud to have founded.
End Youth Homelessness Cymru was created to bring together organisations from across Wales to tackle youth homelessness through research, collective action, policy influence and the amplification of young people’s voices. Since its establishment, EYHC has grown into a nationally recognised coalition, helping to reframe youth homelessness as a distinct issue requiring early intervention and preventative solutions.
The year ahead marks a significant and exciting milestone for EYHC. Becoming an independent charity, with its own Board of Trustees and a Young People’s Board made up of EYHC Champions from across Wales, provides strong foundations to grow, evolve and continue working towards the shared goal of ending youth homelessness in Wales.
Throughout EYHC’s journey, Llamau has proudly hosted and supported the coalition, providing a home, leadership and guidance during its formative years. From leading the original campaign that brought EYHC into being, to supporting its development and national influence, Llamau has played a pivotal role in EYHC’s success.
Bill Rowlands, Director of End Youth Homelessness Cymru, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to Llamau for their unwavering support since our establishment in 2017. From leading the original campaign that brought EYHC into being, to providing a home and ongoing guidance, Llamau have played a pivotal role in our journey. We would not be where we are today without them.”
As EYHC steps into independence, Llamau and EYHC will continue to work closely together, alongside partners across Wales, to ensure that no young person is forced to face homelessness.
Sam Austin, Chief Executive of Llamau, said:
“We are immensely proud to have founded End Youth Homelessness Cymru and to have supported its growth from a bold campaign into a respected national movement. EYHC becoming an independent charity is a powerful moment that reflects the strength of the foundations laid in its early years. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership to end youth homelessness in Wales.”
As the founding organisation of End Youth Homelessness Cymru, Llamau remains committed to tackling youth homelessness through prevention, partnership and systemic change, and is proud to see EYHC enter this next chapter, building on the vision and values that brought the coalition into being.
