Llamau’s Domestic Abuse and Gender Specific Services have been nominated by the Wales Assembly of Women for a National Association of Women in Operations (NAWO) Award, recognising Llamau’s contribution to ending gender-based violence in Wales.
The awards, taking place on 10 December 2025 at the House of Lords, highlight nominees’ contributions to advancing women’s safety and rights across the UK. All NAWO nominees will also be acknowledged during a separate segment at the House of Commons.
Llamau’s work spans prevention, safety and recovery, supporting women, young people and children experiencing or at risk of domestic abuse, exploitation and homelessness. This support includes safe accommodation, outreach support, advocacy, specialist children’s programmes and education on healthy relationships. Last year, Llamau supported more than 4,500 women, children and families, helping people stay safe, rebuild stability and prevent homelessness.
The nomination comes during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign calling for action to prevent violence and transform systems. As part of the Wales Assembly of Women’s 16 Welsh Women, 16 Days of Action campaign, Llamau colleague Sandy Sandberg features for her work as an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate, highlighting her role in safeguarding and empowering families at the earliest stages of risk.
Being nominated for this award during the 16 Days of Activism is especially meaningful to everyone at Llamau, because it highlights the importance of investing in services that prevent abuse and support survivors to rebuild their lives.
While this recognition is appreciated, what matters most is that it helps draw attention to the experiences of women and children affected by domestic abuse, and the urgent need for sustained commitment to tackling violence and abuse against women and girls in Wales.
