LGBTQ+ Support
Young people from the LGBTQ+ community are four times more likely to experience homelessness than their peers. Llamau recognises the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and provides tailored support, including at Tŷ Pride, Wales' first dedicated 24-hour accommodation and support project for homeless LGBTQ+ young people
Young people from the LGBTQ+ community are four times more likely to experience homelessness than their peers, primarily as a result of their family's rejection of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. And LGBTQ+ young people experiencing homelessness are twice as likely than their non-LGBTQ+ peers to experience hidden homelessness, such as sofa surfing and staying with strangers.
Llamau recognises the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ people facing or experiencing homelessness, and offers LBGTQ+ specific support honed by years of experience and learning. In 2019 Llamau founded Tŷ Pride, Wales' first dedicated 24-hour accommodation and support project for LGBTQ+ homeless young people. Created in response to the 2019 'Out on the Streets: LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness in Wales' report from End Youth Homelessness Cymru, Tŷ Pride offers a safe, therapeutic environment where young people can heal from trauma and build the skills to live independently.
Inclusivity runs through everything Llamau does. Across all services — from accommodation and education to domestic abuse support — Llamau's environments and culture foster respect, understanding and celebration of LGBTQ+ people. Through one-to-one support, staff training and inclusive practice, Llamau strives to ensure every young person feels safe to be themselves.
