Volunteer With Us

Llamau couldn’t end homelessness without the support of its incredible volunteers. Volunteering with Llamau is a powerful way to make a difference. Every hour you give helps young people and women in Wales to build safer, more stable futures.

There are many ways to get involved

You could support women and families as they settle into new communities after leaving refuge, share your skills at one of Llamau’s events, or help to raise vital funds that ensure more people have a safe place to call home. 

In return, volunteering with Llamau offers you the chance to develop new skills, meet like-minded people, and be part of a community working together to end homelessness in Wales. 

Please note: volunteers must be aged 18 or over.


Domestic abuse volunteer service 

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of women and children affected by domestic abuse/trauma?  

Due to the development of current volunteers we have opportunities throughout our services. Volunteers offer much needed emotional support and practical help to survivors of domestic abuse and trauma, enabling them to a live a life free from fear and abuse. 

Time Commitment 

Roughly 2-3 hours every week or fortnight. This could be more depending on your availability. 

How you can help 

To offer additional support to women and families supported by Llamau. Help build their self-esteem, self-confidence and emotional well-being. This will assist them in developing healthy relationships and pursuits which in the longer term will support their transition towards independence.   

Possible Tasks 

  • Encourage Women and families to participate within activities in their community. 

  • Encourage Women to access employment, training and volunteering. 

  • Accompany Women and families people to activities including; cinema, gym, walks, 

  • Accompany young people to appointments i.e.- medical, benefits. 

  • Share your skills and interests with the women ie-sport, craft, music. 

  • Support women to share their plans and goals. 

Qualities and Skills Required 

  • An understanding of issues facing women and families who have experienced domestic abuse 

  • Ability to relate to and engage women and families who have experienced domestic abuse 

  • A non-judgemental, empathetic and caring attitude. 

  • A good communicator, understanding the importance of listening effectively. 

  • A commitment to the ethos of the organisation, policies and procedures. 

  • The ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries 

You will receive a comprehensive induction, ongoing training, support and supervision. Travel and expenses for activities will be reimbursed.

Two references. Volunteers will also need to have an enhanced DBS Check.

Youth Homeless Helpline Volunteer 

We are looking for volunteers to take calls from young people who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness. Their circumstances could be dictated by a number of reasons, so you need to a good listener with an empathetic, non-judgmental approach.  

Full training and ongoing support is provided. This is a home working opportunity, anywhere across Wales. Volunteering hours can differ week by week but we ask you put yourself forward for at least one four hour shift per week, with a maximum of 12 hours. Shifts are evenings and weekends.

The helpline operates between 5pm - 9am Monday to Thursday 5pm - 9am Friday to Monday. 

  • Location: Across Wales. A working from home opportunity 

  • Reporting to: Helpline Volunteer Coordinator 

  • Volunteering hours: Minimum requirement 1 x 4 hr shift weekly, maximum 12hr 

  • Pattern: Weekly rota volunteer shifts, evenings and weekends 

Role Responsibilities 

  • To respond to Llamau’s helpline calls, emails, text and web chats responding to young people housing needs. 

  • To listen to young people in a non-judgmental and empathetic way, ensuring a quality service is provided. 

  • To assess each call individually to ensure the support and assistance given to callers is appropriate and of the highest standard. 

  • To refer and signpost to appropriate services, providing advocacy when needed. 

  • To record accurate information in the appropriate systems required by Llamau. 

  • To uphold Llamau’s Mission, Vision, Values, Policies and Procedures. 

  • To maintain confidentiality at all times whilst also considering safeguarding issues. 

  • To participate in training, supervision and debrief sessions 

  • To be self aware and seek advice, report problems, difficulties, complaints to the Volunteer Helpline Coordinators. 

Llamau will provide:

Volunteer photographers 

We are recruiting for volunteer photographers who have the ability to capture high quality photographs and key moments across a range of events we host.  

Supporting events such as the Cardiff Half Marathon and the Tour of Pembrokeshire, we are looking for someone to help us celebrate our runners and cyclists, capturing their energy and passion for the challenges they take on.  

One photographer will be needed per event we host, so if you would like to gain some experience in photography within the charity sector, please read the below and fill out an application form. 

Reporting to:  Fundraising Manager/Events Officer  

Principle Duties

To take high quality photographs that celebrate Llamau’s event participants, capturing their energy, passion and efforts.  

  • Work with the fundraising department to ensure that images fulfil the brief for the I am Team Llamau campaign. 

  • Photograph evergreen content that can be shared across multiple platforms, such as social media, emails, and newsletters. 

  • Return images to Llamau in an agreed timeframe. 

  • Adhere to Llamau’s GDPR and image rights procedures. 

  • Be amiable and approachable by fundraisers and event goers. 

  • Be able to travel to events – costs of travel will be reimbursed. 

  • Own photography equipment is highly desirable.

  1. Hold in high regard the fundraisers of each event.  

  1. Must be reliability and timely. 

  1. Must have a good attitude towards constructive criticism

Community volunteer fundraisers 

We are looking for a Community Volunteer Ambassador to support the fundraising team to increase income. Your support will continue to change lives of the young people, vulnerable women and their children we support, helping them leave homelessness behind.  

Main duties include:  

  • Attending cheque presentations on behalf of Llamau and thanking donors for their support 

  • Giving presentations to community groups encouraging them to support Llamau 

  • Placing and servicing collecting tins in your area 

  • Taking opportunities to secure support for Llamau through Supermarket green token schemes.   

You will be provided with full training and issued with collateral and receipt books. We are flexible on the time commitment required and will gratefully accept any support you can give.
